Research
Although there are instrumental programs already in place, there could be improvements made through decreasing social stigma for both parents and children, and increasing the amount of programs put in place to academically help those with autism.
Plan of Action
Understanding of Autism
Children with disabilities are not different they just need more steps to understand and progress. This is the main principle to remember when referencing people with autism spectrum disorders. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects 1 in 59 children. Expanding peoples knowledge of what autism is can help to decrase academic and social stigma.
Early Intervention
Early intervention is vital to giving children the tools to one day reach their full potential. Early intervention can help not only the autistic children themselves but also teach other parents and children in peer play groups what disabilities are and how to be friends with people that have them.
Alternate Activities
After school activities and additional school resources are critical towards decreasing social stigma. These resources aim to bring autistic children and their peers together creating a more welcoming environment. As well as helps the students with their discipline, which can then help to improve their behavior
